Together with Michaela Blayne, Mitchell wrote a novel for adults called Bliss. Shay Mitchell, born April 10th, 1987 in Ontario, Canada, was raised by her parents Mark Mitchell, and Precious Garca. Her mother, a Filipina is her maternal grandmother. While her father is Irish and Scottish. Mitchell is the cousin of Lea Salonga, the renowned musical theater actor and singer. When she was a kid, Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary before transferring to the West Vancouver Secondary School. She had already modeled around the world by the time she reached her teens. She travelled to Barcelona, Bangkok, Hong Kong and then returned to Toronto and began her studies in acting.
